Kai grew up a hundred metres from Currumbin Alley and has been photographing the southern Gold Coast points for fifteen years — always at first light, usually before work, occasionally instead of it. His photographs sit alongside a growing series of hand-drawn surf illustrations that started as sketches in the back of a work van.
“I shoot the mornings nobody else sees. The ocean at 5am doesn't care who you are — that's the thing I'm trying to put on a wall.”
